Fair enough, but is the system really crushing them? Materialistically life has never been better. Education for everyone, healthcare, if you can't work your subsistence can be provided by the government. No matter how you see it, despite all the corruption and inequality and shenanigans, it's still way better to be a human now than in any other moment of humanity's history.

I would say that what people attribute to the "system" is caused not so much by the government/capitalism and moreso by technology, social media and smartphones. The ability to communicate instantly with anyone in the world and access any information humanity has ever known fucked our primate brains. In this sense Cyberpunk does the best fictional social analogy for our shortcomings than any other genre imho
