After watching an I Dream of Jeannie marathon, two friends, a chubby, nerdy guy and a more dude-bro type, find a genie lamp, and the dude-bro friend rubs it. As a result, the dude-bro friend is turned into a genie who looks like a young Barbara Eden, due to considering that the ideal "genie" look, and becomes the genie of that lamp. She/he now goes by Jeanie.
From that point, the stories usually revolve around either: stories that wouldn't be too weird in an actual episode of I Dream of Jeannie (though with added sexually charged, gender-bent elements); stories that revolve around Jeanie trying to hide the fact that she/he got gender-bent from the rest of the world (though some of this has kind of been dropped, especially since her/his given job, movie critic, has kind of been made obsolete in the present day, so she/he just doesn't have a job in more recent chapters); storylines where they interact with other shows from that time, like The Dukes of Hazzard, Gilligan's Island; or genie politics.
