Back in the days, identities were born out of music.
Punks, emos, metalheads.
Now identities are created on social media.
Music is an addition.
My 2 cents is that, since music is the most sovlfvl of all artforms, if it becomes an addition, then you lose your sovl.
Every identity becomes performative.
That's why art and memes became a reiteration of older art: it's from sovl that comes novelty. If you wanna do dress up as an emo, a shoegaze fan, a Deftones fan, you don't need a sovl.
You need a tshirt with the Nirvana logo on it and big tiddies.
