My headcanon is that piracy wasnt as big back in the day, even here giants were largely the biggest threat in the seas and this was some 109 years ago. Rocks big era was around 50 years ago and the golden age of piracy starts only 24 years ago when Roger basically kickstarts it. My headcanon is that with the explosion of piracy so many more people took to the seas and thats why theres so many more DF users now. There were way less pirates back in the day and as such less DF users and pirate crews were mostly made up of basic swordsmen and shit
