People loving Rocks and the recent chapters kinda proves Oda right that silhouette shit DOES work. Seeing the full design for the first time is a big source of hype for these chapters and it adds to the whole "reveal" of Rocks and his story.
And using the character as much as you can in flashbacks/slihouette without showing the design is a way to build hype for when you finally get to do the reveal. People had been wanting to see Rocks in action for years, and it wouldn't have been the same if we didn't have those flashbacks "almost" showing him.

He started off as a potentially equal rival for Luffy but unlike Law he never got a lot of focus, characterisation or a fleshed out backstory.
He was just the angry guy throwing metal chunks around.
I feel like Oda planned to flesh out his character properly when he started off with Wano but shit dragged on for too long, too many characters were introduced and some parts of the arc genuinely felt like they were last minute rewrites.
The story had to move on so Kid's character arc was scrapped.
Even if he comes back now I donโt know how Oda could possibly redeem him. It feels like itโs too late for a proper backstory and thereโs no purpose for his character.

Sanji's heelturn was 0% believable was because it's all a lie. He is trying to save Luffys life by lying to both himself and Luffy that it's best he just leaves and he becomes owned by Big Mom. And even Luffy can see it since he immedietely calls "Bullshit". Sanji could have just tried to run away with them, BUT his hands have the bomb cuffs on them and Zeff would be murdered by Crescent-stache Gary.
