Was going over some photos from my 2023 trip and I remembered a distinct memory
I was walking towards enoshima from kamakura and I saw this little cafe along the road facing the ocean. think it was called the sunrise shack. Popped in and there was a white girl that looked like she was teleported straight out of Ann Arbor behind the counter. She was super cute but looked so out of place there, it really just looked like she was an American college student.
I'm not shocked I saw another white person but I am interested how she's in that position. No american college student on a gap year or doing a study abroad would be working a cafe wagie job at 2pm on a tuesday, especially not one this far from Tokyo. If she was an expat (which is doubtful because she doesn't even look old enough to drink), again, why would she be doing this job?
Maybe she's a 2nd gen of expats but her vibes are SO american college, "ugg boots and pumpkin spice" - down to the fashion - that I can't believe she'd be able to capture the aesthetic that soundly without having very recently lived it. Wish I'd asked her her story lol
