Not much really. European grocery chains are very similar to each other. The way Aldi is paving way in the US is simply importing the european model of smaller close-to-home shops which have slightly higher prices than big supermarkets but are much more convenient to visit. Just build a midsize market right in the middle of a big suburban area and all those houses will be shopping at local Aldi instead of driving an hour to a Walmart.
Walmart might get serious competition from it but Costco won't. Wholesale markets exist in Europe as well and they serve people who are ready to drive a longer distance and to buy large quantities at once.
