Sure but you don't really need a firewall, it's a fairly modern OS, by default I don't remember it having any open ports and you can disable remote desktop if you are paranoid. Also you connect to a router which has all ports closed so a firewall won't really do much. Better to have a local firewall in case something wants to get out.

Though ofc it would be prudent to not access your bank account/email on an outdated OS.
Oh an install some of the updates, the ones with important security updates. They don't really improve security but you may need some of their features for games.
