When seen negatively, she's a cold bitch who pushes people away because they might try to hurt or exploit her, and that's enough to make her think she's fully justified. She's pretentious and self-centered because she grew up in an environment that forced her to be selfish or "lose". Maybe I'll do a backstory piece but sabotaging her peers research isn't below her.

Des is able to get burned emotionally and live, Selene would sooner cut someone off before they are in a position to hurt her than risk being on their level.
Selene and Sleeping Beauty need to have the advantage over their lovers, and even then, if they fight back, they lash out because both are too afraid of being exploited again to invest those kinds of feelings in others.
