an update to this; they broke two of the fucking endgame crises. the contingency and prethoryn can invade and fight in space mostly fine but they are completely unable to purge worlds they take because for some fucking reason you need an employed pop on a planet to begin purging, and neither of them HAVE any pops. And since they've been too busy getting the game to even be playable they likely haven't realised they've completely fucked over two of the three big bads. Did they literally just not playtest this update at all?
At least I've rolled possibly the best start position I've ever had.

I've taken to biological ascension so that when I conquer a different species I can immediately spec them into a new role for them to fill. Did the empire piss me off? Nerve stapled and delicious livestock. Were they an alright sort and were peacefully integrated? Assimilated into the hive mind and modified to be far superior to what they were.

honestly if the taxes also eat into the cheat materials the AI gets this might suddenly become my favourite playstyle.

I always rush down the colossus or pray to God for the new existential expulsion CB so I don't have to wrangle the claims mechanic, makes assimilation and destruction far easier than it is otherwise.

I think most of the lag now comes from the AIs obsession with building almost nothing but corvettes (until they actually fix the AI to work, at which point the performance will probably be worse than in 3.14)
