Nah. I think this is different. Andross swiping the plot from General Scales feels unearned because: A. The player never gets to fight him themselves, so they feel robbed of a major battle. B. He was a mad scientist usurping a mystical plot. and C. There was no gravitas or buildup to his return. He was the ONLY Star Fox big bad to date.
Compare that to here, where you fight Empty Kong twice, and essentially scuttle his entire operation before the big reveal. You don't feel robbed, because you essentially beat him yourself. Add in the foreshadowing with the enemies that clearly are intended to resemble the Kremling Krew, right down to having -oid (meaning like) suffixes on their names, and this doesn't feel like a complete rug pull the way it was for Fox.
