Nah. I think this is different. Andross swiping the plot from General Scales feels unearned because: A. The player never gets to fight him themselves, so they feel robbed of a major battle. B. He was a mad scientist usurping a mystical plot. and C. There was no gravitas or buildup to his return. He was the ONLY Star Fox big bad to date.

Compare that to here, where you fight Empty Kong twice, and essentially scuttle his entire operation before the big reveal. You don't feel robbed, because you essentially beat him yourself. Add in the foreshadowing with the enemies that clearly are intended to resemble the Kremling Krew, right down to having -oid (meaning like) suffixes on their names, and this doesn't feel like a complete rug pull the way it was for Fox.

Yeah, that's probably one of the reasons they made Andross be the Krazoa God aside from needing more Star Fox stuff in the game. The Krazoa were alright, pretty evil, Scales was already gonna get betrayed by Drakor, and Andross was the villain of 2 (3 behind closed doors) Star Fox games at that point. So in the end, that's how things ended up.

King K Rool has that sort of Aku appeal where he manages to seamlessly slip between being a genuine threat that ups the stakes but also just a really funny goofy git. One of the most genuinely interesting things about K. Rool and the Kremlings is that they're bit of a Krystal from Star Fox case in that they're remnants of an cancelled original property Rare was creating that ended up getting crammed into a Miyamoto helmed Nintendo IP.

It was called "Johnny Blastoff and the Kremling Armada" and was supposed to be some sort point and click adventure game for PC. but then it got shelved and Rare decided to recycle some of its character designs for DKC when Nintendo instructed them to create original antagonists (their original idea was to use Wario, funny enough).

I think you can recover the Snowmads, just write out Lord Fredrik (say he got killed by DK, or the Snowmads kicked him out, or the REAL leader of the Snowmads showed up, whatever) and they work. Fredrik was the only real problem with them.

Dr Nefarious despite the complaints of his overuse really was the best villain in the Ratchet and Clank Series besides Gleeman Vox and most of it is on the utterly perfect delivery from Armin. Funny enough Armin Shimerman voiced Green Goblin once in Ultimate Alliance 2 since mentioned Dafoe which oddly works well but his voice acting is super underused in that game. I think what's important is to get K. Rool's personality what. He's theatrical and he's also insane. He shouldn't have a friendly rivalry with DK, he's not a Bluto like Bowser is to Mario. Bowser cares about his minions and has some sense of honor. K. Rool would only pretend to have honor if whatever persona he was playing was supposed to have it, and he would gladly toss any amount of minions to their death for something entirely meaningless and stupid. K. Rool wants the Kongs miserable and dead. If he doesn't kill the kongs it's to fulfill some dumb fantasy of his.

The original rare designers talked about his personality, they wanted him to come off as both bumbling and goofy, but also intimidating. And part of that comes from the fact he's insane and could do anything. He could laugh and trip on his feet due to his weird lanky arms and build, and then proceed to shoot a kremling in the face for not laughing with the others.

The Rare renders show this off well I think.

The banana hoard was mainly a thing in DKC1, which wasn't even DK's only goal since the kremlings still invade and stuffed Diddy in a barrel.

The bananas are almost completely downplayed in DKC2 outside of banana coins existing.

DKC3 kind of ramps it up with the banana birds but they have no relevance to the plot, nor is it any of the kong's motivations (DK and Diddy only went to explore the Northern Kremisphere to win a contest, and Dixie and Kiddy only go there to save the kongs).

DK64 gave us the Golden Bananas and the Banana Fairies, which probably was the game that cemented the banana obsession, even when they don't play a role outside of that.

I think Peon was the game that really pushed it when they introduced a banana alien race.

New stage from Bananza will likely just be one of the earlier layers. Not much else to add there. Canyon Layer might be the best option out of them since it's thematically distinct, and you can even throw in minecarts.

Donkey Kong getting captured in DKC2 was because the Kremlings ambushed him, and he was able to withstand K. Rool's cannonballs when he was being tortured when you get to him in that game.

Plus, literally every game K. Rool has appeared in besides the Paon games has K. Rool try to draw less and less attention from the Kongs as he tries to get his plans going:
