Were the barely visible scales and gold belly really the overwhelming reason a lot didn't like the Paon design? Ultimate's update on it was very well-received and thus far this design's seemed to get a mostly warm reception as well.

It's literally just Jungle Climber with more defined scales.
Not that it even matters. His design as a whole has not changed at all since his inception in the original DKC. There is nothing unique about the Smash design. There's nothing really unique about the Jungle Climber design.
