Yes, it came out just this year. I've always wanted the Excelsior to be a pilot ship although a cruiser that big having a "dash" ability would always look silly.

Orville is pretty close to the spirit. Definitely the anti-STD. Season one is very silly and might turn off some viewers. It picks up the stride in season 2 where the jokes are more natural and in-character, rather than "as the plot demands". Season 3 is pretty much a wrap up season designed to close off story arcs. Has value but is more of an extended goodbye.
I found it refreshing and probably "more Trek than Trek" with an optimistic future. It is definitely an extended fanfiction though, but unlike Enterprise it isn't LITERAL fanfiction with a 'computer end program' ending.
