Not Mario, but I always thought it was weird how they tiptoed around the idea of love in Kingdom Hearts. Most of Disney's catalogue and the worlds the series pull from feature romance pretty heavily. So it's weird you can't see canon couples like Aladdin and Jasmine or Tarzan and Jane act like they're together. Herc is based though, he actually says he loves his girlfriend that one time. It was weird how despite this observation, they were entirely okay with implying Simba fucked the shit out of Nala before the Pride Lands revisit.
