If they had shown less of Phrolova’s past, didn’t show Rover lying to her, and left out Triss and the villagers, I think most players would’ve wanted her dead too. But no, they showed us all that, and most players felt betrayed when Rover suddenly got angry and threw his sword at Phrolova.

Also, note that Phrolova didn’t toss the gem to Cristoforo until after Rover threw his sword. She was unwilling to cooperate with Fractsidus' plan, until the last moment.
