flash was a proprietary resource hog that developers had no ability to maintain on their own, and Adobe was a rentseeking piece of shit taking forever to patch any major vulnerabilities. Replacing flash with HTML5 and proper CSS was actively more efficient and secure. Ostensibly, webdevs had the tools to do things properly, but what happened is that most of them replaced Flash with fucking garbage javascript libraries that they couldn't maintain on their own either.
