>>716061665 (OP)what zoomies fail to understand is that flash was basically the entirety of the internet for like 15 years. Government websites fucking used flash to render their benefits portals. It was expanded far, far beyond what it was ever really intended for (which was basically just an animation plugin)
It was so prevalent that there were "full stack" developers who worked entirely in flash. Almost any cartoon made after 2000 used flash. Some studios STILL use it (under a different name but still sold by Adobe). The ecosystem was so large that the games were a natural byproduct. The second that Apple noticed that Adobe had literally abandoned flash and moved forward with championing HTLM5, it was fucking over. There was little reason for something that had that much hardware access and control to be so bloated AND insecure. If it was just one it wouldn't have been such a fucking problem.
I loved flash games. I grew up on them. I have flashpoint and boot some of them up and even go to Newgrounds sometimes to see how how they're doing with fucking RUFFLE. But the age of hobbyists making games for free (and for their portfolio) was very, very small and it was for profit from an early point. Kongregate, miniclip, shockwave, etc all commercialized flash games and there were premium services offered, trial versions of full games, and other bullshit on top. The nascent stages of broadband internet were amazing but like all things, it changes.
/f/ is dead. Long life /f/

Did Kongregate pay flash game developers to keep achievements exclusive to their games on Kongregate? Devs added achievements to their games when they released them on Kongregate but they never added any when they released them on Newgrounds.
>>716062728JSK games are way better
>>716061857>it was an actual blight making the internet worseProof? Flash is no more yet the Internet didn't heal itself.
>>716070656flash was a proprietary resource hog that developers had no ability to maintain on their own, and Adobe was a rentseeking piece of shit taking forever to patch any major vulnerabilities. Replacing flash with HTML5 and proper CSS was actively more efficient and secure. Ostensibly, webdevs had the tools to do things properly, but what happened is that most of them replaced Flash with fucking garbage javascript libraries that they couldn't maintain on their own either.
>>716061665 (OP)>boomersthis was made by millennials for millennials

>>716069798Can't argue with that.
honestly having to install a program, not just a browser extension, that hooks into your browser, and you manually have to keep it up to date, was not a very good concept.

Once Steam allowed third party games rather than exclusively being a Valve platform and at the same time, Xbox developed its Xbox Live Arcade and indie outreach programs, the door was kicked open. At the same time, Web 2.0 and the parallel development of smartphones and subsequent reorganization of the internet around smartphones created a massive consolidation of the internet that allowed companies to target nascent audiences, e..g the Facebook browser game candy crush etc. demographic. The dot com bubble was barely in living memory and new billionaires were being born overnight.
