The idea I have is that Nicky "Sonic" would meet Vector after he scares off his bullys in the first episode. With Vector "inviting" Nicky over to his band "plus Charmy" who are in the middle of practice, who he then goats Nicky into Singing for while Sharps the Parakeet teaches him how to play guitar. Throughout the Show, Vector would take on the best friend role since Tails or Knuckles wouldn't make sense for this.
Later on in the Show, The band would leave the island, leaving only Vector Sonic and Charmy for the remainder
