They'll tell you with a straight goddamn face that it's more efficient to use multiple keystrokes for shit that's basic on other layouts like fucking arrow keys lmao. It's based on the original Macintosh M0110 keyboard, but that wasn't exactly the model of perfection or efficiency even in its day; Apple sold a companion numpad, and very soon after made a (for the time) fullsize board with dedicated arrow keys AND a numpad, because even Apple fucking knew that the base M0110 wasn't enough.
And then the people who buy actual HHKBs are the biggest rubes of the keyboarding world. I paid $140ish for my Realforce R3S and I still feel like I overpaid a bit (and I say that even though it's my current daily driver). I can't begin to imagine paying double that (or more!) for the same switch tech but for substantially fewer keys.
