YIIK's problem had nothing to do with the MC being shitty.
Anyone who actually played the game will realize the game likes to constantly repeat things at you that are extremely obvious, and the prose is unnecessarily wordy like it takes 4-5 lines to say what could've been said in 1 line.
It's shit like this that makes every character unintentionally insufferable, and it makes Alex super duper turbo intolerable because the game has to remind you fifty times an hour that he sucks, and yet the world still revolves around him and a girl is into him for no reason.
