>Ian: Honestly when I first started writing, Sonic was the hardest one to get behind because he was such a jerk. He was such an ego maniac. This is the jock, this is the guy who would make my time at school hard. I have to make this guy likeable. Ehhhh. What I eventually found with him was to break him away from how he had been written previously.
>Ian: It's a few things. Number one, I'm really not new to ridicule. I was on the low end of the social order throughout my entire school career. No lasting damage there...so I already have a low opinion of myself so when someone says "you're a hack", I'm like "Eh, you're probably not wrong. The thing is I still get work, so I must be hacking something right."
Ian is a loser. Ian's fans are losers. That's why almost all of them are mentally ill nerds on titty skittles who use slice-of-life tea party fanfictions to cope with their shallow lemming-esque life. IDW fans actually expect someone who has lasting trauma and low self-esteem from being bullied at school to write a character who's supposed to be the coolest trendsetter around. Ian is literally terrified of social repercussions and backlash, which is why he spent over a minute clarifying he "supports trans rights" before he says he doesn't personally think Sonic would be a tranny. You expect someone who constantly thinks about how he might be socially perceived to write a character that's legitimately bound by nothing, especially not the criticisms of society. And that's delusional. Ian Flynn is antithetical to Sonic as a character. He will never be a good Sonic writer.
