My understanding is that Sofia was planned to continue but Disney decided to wind it up in favour of Elena of Avalor (same universe, same creator). Sofia is coming back next year though (at least I think it still is, haven't heard much about it in a while) as "Sofia the First: Royal Magic" which will apparently continue directly from the S4 finale.
