It's a good thing he showed up and dominated the genre for 20 years. I can't believe we didn't get more horror villains with Concept like Freddy but at least he showed up and just dominated the horror icon game.

The late 90s and early 2000s were so dominated by Scream and a certain kind of Tarantino-ism. So where do you take the horror genre next? Exactly where he did. He delivered a reaction against the pleasant aesthetics of the teen horror meta genre and back to the grimy walls and guts of its roots. And his first movie and the best of his sequels deliver a level of Concept so high that it's baffling to me that it isn't better understood as an ode to Hitchcock.

Nobody is even close to beating his concept.
