Why did M3gan 2.0 fail where Saw X succeeded? What does both series being under Blumhouse now mean for their futures?

At a certain point is M3gan just short on concept? Like you get the idea in the first movie and they need to change it up for the second movie but the girl robot concept is not strong enough on its own to carry an action comedy so it winds up not resonating and doesn't have the horror audience to fall back on?

Megan 2 was a bad movie. Saw X was ok.

It wasn't even the same doll.
They story was convoluted and artificial. Not the typical "same, but bigger and bolder" like a normal sequel.

M3GAN 1 came out in January, competing against nothing, and made 100+ million
The sequel would've done the same thing, and was slated for a January release until Jimmy Blumhouse himself became delusional and thought the movie was capable of pulling mid-2010s capeshit numbers if he pushed it back for a summer release
He literally said he thought M3GAN would be as big as Superman, even though Superman has not been truly successful in theaters since the 70s, so not only is Blum stupid, but he's also completely out of touch with reality

Yeah, they bet big on M3gan and wound up coming up snake eyes. If they're really thinking about using the Saw series and the AI concept to save M3gan as a viable franchise that's a huge risk.

Saw X was a fun prequel to a mostly dormant franchise, it had a forgettable sequel/reboot years after Saw 3D and a spinoff with Chris Rock that nobody gave a fuck about. Not only that but it was a film that was all Tobin Bell, even as a Hoffman enjoyer theres just no comparing him John Kramer, and the filmmakers knew too since they kept using flashbacks to justify bringing him back despite the character being killed off very early on.
M3gan on the other hand...it was a killer doll movie that only got viral because of
>LOL HER FUNNY DANCE XDDDD
from normalfags and because the design appealed to lolifags. That's not really a stable foundation for a franchise, especially because they immediately jumped the gun from horror to action comedy.

I don't think the argument of quality even matters.
If this movie had come out in January it would've been a massive hit regardless. "Soulm8te" will cost like 15 mil or whatever and make probably 80+ when it comes out next January, and it'll probably be lame, but that won't matter
It's purely down to Blum's delusion

Whatever M3GAN 2's plot was, it still needed to be horror. They could've done whatever, but as long as it was still a horror movie, it would've been fine. They shouldn't have tried to genre swap with "robot girl vs. robot girl" until like M3GAN 5.

The genre swap does feel like it happened far too quickly, it's like if Freddy vs. Jason was made as a direct follow up to the first Friday the 13th. It's as though they wanted to speed run the life cycle of a horror franchise and dive into self-parody immediately

To be fair, how much mileage could you get out of a psycho doll ? Much less one that costs $10k. It isn't plausible,so they have to come up with some other angle to keep it going. M3Gan is endearing and the female sassbot is what they want to keep pushing and intentionally cheesing it up with the story. They're making fun of themselves in M3gan 2.0.
HUMAN CENTIPEDE went this route in 3 and made for an enjoyable shock cinema
