Around every 10 years Marvel tries to introduce a new batch of kid heroes to appeal to young readers, and almost all of them fail.
The last time they tried they thought making the characters replacements for the old heroes was the best way to push the new kids. That didn't work and eventually most of the new young characters like Nova, Chulk, and Riri Williams were pushed to the side as their predecessors came back.
This "sidekick" push spinning out of Spider-Boy is the same thing, but this time Marvel realized trying to make them replacements isn't going to work. They pretended these were new sidekicks, but instead of treating them like sidekicks they pushed them as new standalone heroes.
