Vane isn't unplayable by any means but he does have some glaring weaknesses not addressed since his release. If you want characters who can play some good nootch with some fat buttons and keep good midscreen pressure, the best options right now are probably Percival, Sandalphon and Grimnir. Their main defining gimmicks are also all more consistent and not as matchup specific as Vane.
