The only reason I'm a superfan who has played every game in the series as of today is because IS decided to release an Awakening demo on the eshop in 2013. It's ridiculous to think of it that way, and maybe I would have been pulled in by something else, but there it is. It's not like I didn't know the series exist, I had considered buying Sacred Stones at Target years previous, but Awakening is what got me hooked.
No one wants to acknowledge the dumb luck factor because it takes away from a game's unique thunder, but consoomers need to know about and be able to easily play your game in order to be interested in it. Once that door is open, well, Awakening was normalfag catnip with its romance shit and dumbed down gameplay. Great production values too, and just general slick appeal.
