Nintendo gained users with the NES, but the SNES sold worse. Nintendo gained users with the DS, but the 3DS sold worse. Nintendo gained users with the Wii, but the Wii U sold worse. And this is just Nintendo. I could do the other consoles as well.
Console transitions have always been a very risky periods for console makers. The Switch 2 trying to replicate 150M+ sales over 8 years with almost every Nintendo software product hitting historical franchise highs on the Switch is going to be very, very hard.
