It’s important to keep in mind that colors aren’t isolated, their surroundings affect how we perceive them. In the case of skin, it’s usually surrounded by fabric, sky, and grass, all of which influence its color through reflective light and overall color perception.
A general rule of thumb is that skin tends to be low in saturation and light in value when hit directly by light. It becomes more reddish when backlit (blood and skin is translucent). Fabric, on the other hand, tends to be higher in saturation and mid in value. This contrast helps clearly distinguish skin from drapery.
