the people livelihood is threatened by both the invading force and their own government, seeing how fighting/not fighting leading to death by the invading force/execution by the state
you are saying war is defending their livelihood, that is true, but to do that, they had to enlist into the military to gain the tool to do so, supporting the government's interest along the way, they had to do it because the ruling classes hoarded all the tools to fight against the invading force in the first place, no individual can rebel the invading force unless they are allowed to, and only after enlisting
that's why I said "people had no choice in this" in some posts below
