A lot of Zoomers are too young to remember the discourse about Skyrim being mechanically bland and outdated even for its time. Like yeah the open world was cool and still somewhat novel at the time, but other games had
>boss fights with varied patterns (and this was before Souls slop became mainstream)
>dungeons with aesthetic variety and layouts that weren't linear corridors
>responsive combat systems
>good writing
The only reason Skyrim is looked back on so fondly is because when it released it captured a bunch of 10-14 year olds who had limited experience with action/adventure/RPGs and had no interest in delving deeper into the genre.
