The stats are irrelevant, only the letter matters he isn't that far behind a revenant in damage, if you get good seals and have no casters you should be picking up black flame and emptying your FP bar with incantations every fight and boss
At level 7 discus of light does 156-125 =31 in difference, being about 1/5th worse than the best FAI caster(s) in the game is seriously not that bad considering that he's also just barely worse than all the best melees with a halberd
