The fuck are you talking about? The dark side is mentioned from day one, and the light is never mentioned in the original trilogy.
The contrast between Obi-Wan using it to avoid conflict and Vader nearly choking someone to death with it is blatantly obvious even before Yoda spells it out.

There's obvious mid trilogy retcons, but that's not one of them.
