I've read that speed matters far more in sanma, to the point that as rank goes up, average hand value always goes down. But I never assumed it was to the extent of ignoring dora.

This is very surprising to me. We're cutting our value in half to wait on a live 2 intstead of a 7 with 3 outs, which seems like poor EV on paper.
Also, cutting dora is extremely scary in sanma because of how often people dama chiitoi on it.
