People who hate bloat ought to embrace Wayland. Xorg is the very definition of bloat. Like for like, a Wayland session consumes less RAM and demands less CPU time. How is that not convincing?
Both are fine, but exluding one from the base Wayland spec is fucking mental. SSDs are the reason why xterm still looks fitting on a modern desktop. Imagine if it still used a teal twm decoration today.
Why is tearing still so precarious on wayland? Some desktops refuse to support the protocol, and even those that have support hide it behind a config file. Only Vulkan windows will then go ahead and use it. OpenGL is SOL without patching Mesa.
