It's kind of funny, Teddy Roosevelt won and modern marlin 336s (and their clones) are mostly made to his specs.

and he usually had a 24 inch or longer barrel, half octagonal with a half length mag, but it looks like 20 inch full length mag won. I think is long barrel half mag thing was mostly due to black powder, which isn't an issue anymore
