My view on this is that this, and every other fight for pro-consumer laws, is basically a cop out.

Companies are spending almost billions per year lobbying the government for laws that support them and make it harder for new competitors to pop up. This directly allows them to pull more bullshit like for example making products that break more easily, since they have no competition. Stopping this seems impossible so we ask for pro-consumer laws instead.
Surely there would be more competition if new companies weren't screwed?
