But the victory presented many a problem as well. The most noticeable one was that Corintar was now twice as large as before, and nearly all of the new territories were predominantly inhabited by Orcs. Attempting a genocide now would certainly end in disaster. But the Grandmaster was a clever man, so he thought of an alternative: make the Orcs feel accepted, even proclaim yourself the "defender of Orckind". Build forts everywhere; tell the Orcs that they are "to protect them". Only then, when they least expect it, when they have no way to protect themselves, only then can the great purge begin.

Alas, Derwing didn't live to see what came of his schemes. In 1522, the Orcs of Steelhyl (now declared an "integral part of Corintar") revolted under a former commander of the Bladebreaker army. Derwing personally led his troops to suppress the rebellion; though the Corintaris were victorious, the Grandmaster was left severely injured and died from his wounds on the 24th of Silvernight that same year.

The late Derwing chose his heir back when the country was in turmoil. He picked Rosamond Wolfden, a somewhat famous theologist known for promoting "the equality of all races under Corin", but not to the radical extent his peers did. He was chosen for really only one reason: out of the options present to Derwing, he was perhaps the least controversial.

The entirety of Wolfden's reign can be summarised in two words: solidifying rule. He knew very well that none of the estates had that many fans of his Orc tolerance programs, so he did everything in his power to limit their influence. For example, the newly conquered lands were supposed to be distributed among the nobility and adventurers; Wolfram kept these lands unincorporated. One of the most influential estates were the burghers; he did everything to limit their power, up to and including allying with the corrupt Castonath Patricians. The military wasn't exactly loyal; so he formed a royal guard comprised of Orcs.
