One thing I've always noticed with Roman fanatics, who are almost always also Nazi fanatics, is their complete ignorance of everything about Rome that isn't the military.

They can tell you all about the brutal wars of its many emperors but nothing of their abilities as administrators.
They've never heard of Ovid or Martial, and certainly can't speak a word of latin besides Ave Caeser.
They have no interest in ever visiting Pompeii.
They would never in their wildest dreams want to own an antique attic vase.
They certainly wouldn't know how to fold and drape a toga.
They have maybe read the Iliad, but were bored by the plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides.
Their favourite building in Rome is the Colosseum, but they have no love for the Temple of Venus and Roma right beside it

It's just barbarism really.
