You're supposed to work your way up from something like a blue-grey or ivory and save your pure white for highest highlights. I didn't yet have a chance to try proacryls white but I'd wager even that might have trouble smoothly covering over, say, pure black. I really like doing AK dark blue grey(which covers very well) - AK blue grey - white. The result is this nice, cold white with blueish shadows
