>balance issues at launch that weren't as bad as people made out at the time (genuinely a skill issue that the community got over) but drove off casuals
>systematic issues like frequent crashes and no backfill for casual matches if a player left—this latter issue never got addressed at any point in the game's history despite becoming the community's number one complaint
>extremely greedy monetization:
>>no way to get F2P currency and buy DLC units beyond starter quests that can get you one unit and a free battle pass track that could get you one unit per BP
>>Overwatch-style lootboxes in the year 2023, after the market had long moved past that due to consumer backlash
>>Char's Custom Zaku, one of the most iconic mechs in the franchise, was a time-limited skin that required anywhere from hundreds to THOUSANDS of dollars in lootbox purchases to obtain. You couldn't even get lucky and earn it from a lootbox itself, you had to get enough duplicates to get a different F2P currency than the above one and purchase the skin
>devs were slow at addressing issues with the game
>a handful of FAGGOT comp players would always stack a full team of 6 to pubstomp in casual lobbies around the latter half of the game's life, making people not want to play (fuck you CarlSagan and Kasino)
>also OW2 released around the same
It's a real shame because the gameplay was tight and the balance was almost sublime at the game's end with every unit being viable and no unit being so strong as to be must-picks. The game, in the state it was in by the end, was great, but Bamco blew the launch and squandered the hype wave.
