I think the whole thing was ridiculous but in Acolyte... they made an effort to SHOW the cracked glass on the lightsabers, "exposing" the crystal, so NOW it can be bled with the rage or whatever.
you see, Anakin's lightsaber was shielded by the glass.
fanfiction-tier nonsense. somebody was thinking "oh it will be soooo cool!" when it's clear it doesn't work that way in Lucas' movie with Anakin vs Obi-Wan (yeah... bu-but, the cracked glass!)
