As /b/ (rapidly) became the initial "port of call" for a huge number of users to post their New Threads, regardless of whether their content (or the OP's intended reply content) might be allowed / borderline acceptable, the /b/ Random board became almost unmanageable and grossly overloaded.
Thus the /trash/ board was implemented to take a significant proportion of the "more respectable" garbage that was unacceptably posted on the respectable boards, thus making the /b/ - Random board
(that had become extremely popular)
more manageable from the point of view of the Yotsuba GUI and the moderators that supervised the /b/ (and supplementary /trash/ ) boards.
The /trash/ board is, to a large extent, the originally envisioned improvement of /b/, that moot had hoped to create as briefly outlined in the >>935632135 picrel.
We users currently have three Random style boards:
Most Respectable = >>>/bant/catalog - International Random : content conforming to specified Board Rules / Guidelines
Intermediately Respectable = >>>/trash/catalog - fairly respectable content that had been posted to (incorrect) boards in contravention of the Rules / Guideline
de profundis Malicious / Utter Garbage content = /b/ that can be used by 4chan staff to dump bullshit that isn't even fit to be moved into >>>/trash/catalog but is allowed in /b/, plus (of course) the acceptable stuff, that users are allowed to post in /b/, but nowhere else within the 4chan site: e.g. stuff allowed in /b/ by G.R.#3 and additional stuff that is grudgingly tolerated in /b/ e.g.
those thing banned by G.R.'s #6 & #8 that are not enforced in /b/

NB - I am not 4chan staff and never have been, I just think I ought to know and understand the Rules of the site.
