Smith's customer service was about as useful as tits on a bull. Ended up trading it in toward another purchase.
Ruger's LCP Max was an absolute shit show of a gun. It malfunctioned in two differnt ways that rendered it completely useless until you field stripped it. The first malfunction was the recoil springs jamming up on eachother and becoming stuck in the compressed position, leaving the slide open and the gun non functional. To fix : field strip it, pull the springs apart, lube em up, put the gun back together. Wait about 30 or so rounds and it'll happen again.
The other malfunction was caused by the recoil guide rod being too goddamn short and slightly bent. This meant that on occasion it could get jammed in the space between the end of the slide and the recoil lug on the barrel; freezing the action entirely, and rendering the gun useless until field stripped and put back together.
Not exactly good qualities for a carry piece.
Ruger's customer support was better, in that they sent me a new recoil guide rod no questions. BUT when that didn't fix things and I returned the gun to Ruger for service they _claimed_ to have fixed it and shot 30 rounds through it without incident. However, when I got it back, it malfunctioned in exactly the way it wasn't supposed to anymore on the first shot. Ruger ended up refunding me the purchase price.
