Funny enough a bit of research done on this subject seems to indicate that the trauma of such a grievous bodily injury so soon after birth causes the brain to develop differently. If I recall correctly the end result is essentially a propensity to behaviour that could be described as psychopathic, i.e. not trusting others, having no empathy for others, being habitually dishonest, being quick to violence, not identifying with moral norms, etc
