It's tonally very different from Inuyasha. There's no adventure or an overarching villain like Naraku. Not many emotional outbursts or hot-blooded fights. The characters try to live their lives while slowly working towards untangling the core mystery. It's just that some of them are basically career gangsters, which is usually where the conflict comes from. The violence and other negative aspects of the Taisho era get treated in a very matter-of-fact way. There's a sort of callous undercurrent to the whole series: you can do good things, but the world can be pretty awful, so don't get too worked up about it.
