Keep in mind that Dante was not fighting to kill
He needed Yami alive for the ritual, and probably wanted Asta as part of his arcane stage collection
Lucius has done nothing during battle to match this level of on-the-spot adjustment
I guess it's the difference between a former soldier and a former cripple
