I had a Jewish boss once (writing for a magazine that covered military technology) and he was a combination of things I haven't seen much elsewhere. I'm from the south where there's a lot of politeness and niceties, so it was a bit of a culture shock at first. His attitude was relentless with a lot of pressure and "cut the bullshit," and I seethed a lot but it was ultimately good for me. Israeli culture also emphasizes practical accomplishments. Israelis are constantly busy doing something, and always sort of on a background state of alert, because the rocket attacks are a normal part of their life. War is something that can happen there in 30 minutes. It also ranks among the highest nations in reported happiness.

We here in the U.S. can live like the Hobbits in LotR. We're protected by oceans and this big thing called the United States of America. We have lived under someone else's protection for so long that we forget that we are protected. The Israelis don't have that mentality. Iran is led by incompetent killer clowns who say all the time that their mission, a religious mission, is to destroy Israel (and the U.S. btw) and they've not only launched ballistic missiles at Israel but also armed up other groups to wage war with Israel. I'm just saying it's not a big surprise this is happening. The Israelis are going to say, if depending on fundamentally kind and decent people like you for their safety makes them respectable, and taking on Iran's nukes themselves makes them a rogue state, then hell yeah they're a rogue state. Sorry, but they're just going to do this thing.
