>why does this happen?
Pic related. To keep it short, graphical fidelity of ingame assets and in game visual effects has gone too far for our current resolutions, and developer laziness massively exacerbates the problem. There's just too information for each pixel to deal with, so
Playing at 1080p in 2010 was like trying to juggle with three balls, 1080p in 2025 is like trying to juggle eight at the same time. Either reduce the number of balls (downgrade the graphics) or grow more hands (increase your resolution) or do something else to make the magic happen - which means come up with better pixel sampling methods than we have now (DLSS is kinda that), or swap to clustered foward rendering which would probably be best.
